Research and Communication for Design Projects is an activity-based syllabus that teaches students how to research, write, and communicate about their design projects. Each activity contains a small task within so students are learning and refining their skills as they complete each task. Each activity also contains student guides to use in order to learn the technical skills required to complete each task.

Unit 1: Research & writing

Depending on the project, sometimes a client or another team member will provide the content and sometimes the designer is expected to create or take the content and make it project ready. Use this unit to review the general rules of writing to facilitate how the content is written and presented and/or giving advice to a client on content creation and presentation. Additionally students will learn how to research and write content for theme, purpose, and audience and about copyright rules.

Unit 2: Communication & collaboration

In the design and video production business world, students can expect to work in teams and with clients. The ability for a designer to be able to communicate and present design projects is an important skill to have.  In this unit, students are introduced to how to participate in peer review, how to engage in a formal review and redesign process, tips for conducting focus groups, tips for working with clients, and tips for presenting design projects.
