Inspiring Learning Excellence - Learning about Poster Presentations

Presentation Published 4/12/19 Last updated on 4/12/19

This Spark page, with pictures, a Prezi and videos, inspire the learner to excellence in designing and developing academic / professional conference-style posters. This resource is based on what I teach - sometimes up to classes of 250 learners - as a workshop experience. Poster presentations, at conferences, are important ways of disseminating learning and / or research, but their eye-catching and creative potential is sometimes missed. Not here! Remember, a poster presentation is a dissemination, and merits being included in one's CV. This is an A-Z on how to do it successfully! (This presentation has now become so 'famous' at my University, that I teach this session across numerous programmes where poster development - by individuals and groups - are now the summative assessment for the module).

Materials

This teaching session enables individuals or groups to creatively design posters for academic or professional conferences. In the initial development stage, they might explore ideas and layout using flip-chart and pens, or do it electronically in a range of programmes, as best suites themselves (e.g. PhotoShop, Word, PowerPoint, Prezi).

A final production is typically on an A0 (or other) sized print out. They might also have to present this, at conference, on a screen, for example showing the poster in PowerPoint, Adobe pdf, Prezi or other.
