I teach at the community college level. I have been using the Against the Clock books for several semesters now. The approach used in the texts is great: portfolio projects that are broken down into stages and step by step instructions with the theory of why a step is being performed integrated into the project. When new tools are introduces there are these great summary sections that I suggest to students to photocopy and keep at their home workstation for a quick reference guide. I really like using these books and I have received positive feedback from students regarding the books as well. For example, students that had more than one class with me asked why we were not using Against the Clock in all of the classes (the reason was ATC did not have a title for the software used in the other class). I have used the Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign texts. I will be using the flash text for the first time this semester. A colleague uses the Dreamweaver text and has also given positive reviews.

Thank you for your feedback on this series Prof. King. I just purchased and received the InDesign Book. I am glad it is one of the three you have tried. I look forward to getting into the material.

I quite like the look of the brief given for a project in the sample pages for the Illustrator CC Professional Portfolio book. It looks like something I would engage with more (than the traditional- start off with the tools). I may buy one and report back as to how good it actually is.
