2 - 3 week lesson plan for a middle school language arts class on biographical composition with a heroism theme. This plan coordinates with the "Make a Difference" series of biographical posters.

    Reading assignment: Either 1) a copy of Against Odds, a book with stories of 12 courageous people from last century, by Basil Heatter or 2) an alternative nonfiction biographical reading assignment chosen by the teacher. The teacher will then have to modify the lesson assignments to relate to the one story instead of student choice.

    Computer lab with Adobe Spark, or Adobe Voice and Animoto availability. Voice is for students with iPhones, Animoto is for students with Android phones. (optional)

    Smartphone access for students. (optional)

    Posters with courageous nonfictional examples for class bulletin board. The four posters in the “Make a Difference” series are designed for this lesson plan. They may be downloaded and printed on 11x17 sheets.
