Critical Response Handout

Digital Asset Published 9/10/14 Last updated on 5/16/18

Young people need to be encouraged to think deeply about their own work and the works of others, to provide useful feedback and critique, and to continually explore how to improve upon works so that they can have the greatest impact on their intended audience. The Critical Response Technique is one way to help foster this reflective approach. This Critical Response Handout can be used by youth to help guide them through the process when viewing media and giving feedback.

Great resource! I like how the "Questions for the Artist" and "Viewer Critique and Opinion" sections gave an example of how to constructively ask questions and give opinions.

This is a great format for giving/getting feedback on any kind of project. It's a bit of a reach with younger students (the ones I teach) but still useful.

Love that the critique handout asks viewers to frame statements to offer to help improve the work as this requires more in depth thinking to help solve the problem. Nice

Good checklist! It reminds me of a " ladder of feedback guide" we had to apply in a training course.
