How to make someone stand out in colour from a black & white image.

Technical Tutorial Published 8/21/13 Last updated on 2/28/20

Our year 2/3 class are doing a unit on Resilience.

I decided that I would like to teach the students and class teacher how to change a colour class photo into black & white, then pick their own image out and recolour it.

This will then be used as the stimulus for our writing task on how they have bounced back from a situation in the past.

This technic could be adpted for any age/stage, with the image changing from self images, to art, current media events, or the like, really you are only limited by your imagination.

The image I have used is one of the Australian Ashes team in better times, instead of a class photo.

This is easy to follow and I will be using it with my students.

Thanks for the resource. I'm new to Photoshop and I forgot about how to change from background to foreground. The little arrows above the boxes on the left side of the screen did the trick.
