MyThology is the fourth challenge from the student creative and a collaborative project for high school students. The lesson is deliberately left open to accommodate different curriculum objectives and media. The overall goal is for students to create artwork that represents a modern myth (or a modern interpretation of an ancient myth).

Diverse representations inspired by a common myth can be an effective way of explaining how artists have transformed meaning in their work. For example, looking at various artistic interpretations of the Icarus myth in art and poetry reveal very different messages. This page provides examples of artwork, poetry and a presentation in keynote or powerpoint.

As with our previous projects, we will collect work from students from around the world for publication in both a real book, and a digital e-book. All profits will go directly to the Jacaranda School for AIDS orphans in Malawi.

Students will be knowledgeable about and make use of the materials and resources available for
participation in the arts in various roles.

Standard 3: Responding to and Analyzing Works of Art
Students will respond critically to a variety of works in the arts, connecting the individual work to
other works and to other aspects of human endeavor and thought.

Standard 4: Understanding the Cultural Dimensions and Contributions of the Arts
Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic
communication and how the arts in turn shape the diverse cultures of past and present society.

This project was originally conceived as a photoshop project, but any medium which best expresses the students' voice is encouraged.
