Graphic Design Curriculum: Hopes and Dreams

Curriculum Published Jun 20, 2014 Last updated on Jun 8, 2017

In this 8-session graphic design curriculum, youth use Adobe Photoshop, or similar image editing software, to create a collage of images. Young people will be challenged to imagine a world of possibilities and produce three distinct and engaging graphic design projects. Each assignment builds visual literacy and advanced skills in using the tools. The outcome is a gallery of compelling images that reflect students’ perspectives on their lives.

Educators will find facilitation tips and strategies in this and in other resources from the collection. Learn to help students utilize media tools to communicate their ideas effectively and tell their stories in unique and personal ways.

Throughout the curriculum selected youth media projects are referenced to review and reflect on. The graphic design projects are available for download below and a collection of additional youth media pieces can be found on the Create with Purpose Vimeo Channel.

Thank you! What I really like here is the SAMS. I love the acronym and how that ties up the idea in a neat package. I like the reflections, and the photo descriptions. I'm just starting to look into this community and its great.

This was so helpful ! I loved the "I am " poem and it's really great it was also connected back to their wider community. I work as a community developer so this was a great source to stumble upon!
