Simple Machines - The Screw

Project Published 3/31/14 Last updated on 5/9/19

This simple animation shows how a screw is made by wrapping an inclined plane around a cylinder. Although no calculations are required to make this simple machine do work, students will learn the effect of an applied rotational force (screw driver) and how the distance that force is applied to will convert to a linear force with the screw. The iOS widget for iBooks, the .oam file for DPS (InDesign), the .html file and the Edge Animate files (with all assets) are attached. The actual web animation is posted on the weblink. Edge Animate was used to create the interactive animation and Fireworks was used to edit the image files. The widget will be included in my latest iBook titled "Simple Machines" coming soon to the iTunes Bookstore (free download).
