Introduction to Kinetic Typography

Curriculum Published 9/3/11 Last updated on 2/29/20
The explosive advancement of digital technology greatly enhanced the importance of kinetic typography in recent years. In addition to catalyzing the popularity and ubiquity of kinetic type, digital technology also enabled designers to explore exciting new possibilities by combining movement and interactivity. Advertising designers and graphic designers today are responsible for applying their kinetic typography skills to screen-based design projects such as web sites, screen-based ads, digital presentation, information kiosk, multi-media display, digital user interface, as well as media contents for mobile devices. This course, Introduction to Kinetic Typography, will guide students through the creative process of kinetic type as well as introduce all the essential production skills for such a project.

CJ, I must admit my ignorance of kinetic type until I saw your work. Thanks.

Hi CJ,

Thanks for your really interesting posts. The course syllabus looks great. Do you have anything more specific for how you teach the students about and how to do the indivisual projects.

You should also check out Mike Skocko's stuff- he's posted a bunch on kinetic typographty (specifically here and here) and how he's introducing this to his high school students.
