Photoshop Water Color Effect

Posted on 10/25/15 by Brian O'Dell Last updated on 6/8/17

Award Winning Student Example

Students will design a collage centered around a theme of their choice. Each image will be placed individually on the canvas and laid out according to their design. Each image must be water color designed one at a time to create the effect. If you flatten and try all at once, there is a chance of inconsistency in overall design and it will look fake. This is a good lesson to practice layer masking, image adjustments and perspective, color theory and typography.

You can use your own color effects as well as your own background canvas. These were given when I found this tutorial online. Blend Modes will depend on the images and the Color used so suggested blends are guidelines not rules!

I don't do this project all the time. I do however add it into a mixed media project we do where they have to design a minimum of four different graphic styles into one project. I like this project for beginning students to see where their creativity lies.
