Copyright Law

Project Published 7/17/13 Last updated on 2/28/20

I can't remember but I think I got the University of Washington link from Judy Durkee. I get a lot of stuff from her. She is an AMAZING resource. Thanks Judy!. I also use the article from the Harvard Law Review on Shephard Fairey and the Hope Poster case. They all know the work and the discussion over whether it's a copyright violation or not can be really interesting. It's not as tough a read as you might think and I break up the kids into partners, assign them a section, do a partner read and then report back. IT's easier to scaffold that way. There is an NYT article online that then describes the outcome of the trial.

Thanks for sharing these. Copyright Law is tough to teach to students that believe the web is their domain! I use this video and TEDed site to start our discussion of copyright issues. It starts some great discussions.

Thank you so much for sharing these teaching assets with me and the educational community here. I am not an expert on copyright but I do value the intellectual property rights of authors so I want to do my best as an educator to promote responsible use.
