Magazin Cover Design Project
Throughout their first year in high school and following years, our students are expected to prepare lots of infographics, posters, book covers or booklets for other lessons or student clubs. For this purpose, one of the topic we covered in 9th grade ICT lesson is desktop publishing.
Book Cover Design project is their first assignment in Desktop Publishing topic and students are given 2 x double period lesson time to finish.
First double period: Since our lessons are project-based, after the quick demonstration part to show how to use related tools (type, shape, etc.) and how to modify them, students start their projects. Students begin with deciding on their layout (famous magazine cover pages are shown and brief discussion is made about what are the features of a good magazine cover, what kind of information must be added and how to make them appealing), then they place/format image files, add some texts and shapes. By the end of the first double period, students are expected to type necessary information and place their images in high resolution.
Second double period: Students work on their Cover page design and complete their project by the light of given feedback and checking project rubric.
Students are encouraged to use copyright free materials in their projects, however using images from google search results is also accepted as long as they mention the source of the image in their submission.
