Lesson Plan Published 5/27/14 Last updated on 5/16/18

This is a series of activities that relate to text: about the history of text and fonts, text and font design and the creative use of text. Although some of the work is done by hand, all the work is then transferred to digital software: Illustrator, or in some cases, Photoshop.

Here is the list of activities:

1. Foundation of the Letters - Block Letter Design
2. Visual or Concrete Poetry
3. Text As Image

I really like "Word as Image" and have been meaning to introduce something similar each year.

Hmmm, I feel a new assignment coming on. Thanks, Katherine!

This is a one stop shop for introducing and developing typography. I really appreciate the drawing component. Lots of dimensions here.
