Digital Self Portrait Collage

Students are shown images of contemporary collage artists. Students are given background information and definitions of the art terms: Collage, mixed-media, tradition, variety, contrast and unity. Students reflect and write about things that make them unique such as culture, language, music, food, etc. After an introduction to the various tools in Photoshop, students utilize their knowledge to create digital collages. Projects are graded based on use of the following: selection tools, type, fIlters, layers, images, symbolism, gradient(s) and opacity. They must also include an image of themselves and other items that describe or represent who they are.

John - So I am about a year late responding to your comment... Sorry! Just saw it... I added a few more resources including a PowerPoint with some examples. I hope this helps!

Ms. Harrison love this lesson, I was curious if you could share with me some sites where I can show students Contemporary collage artists? When you say that students write about what makes them unique, do you have set form or just give them the topics and then they random write about their favorite or unique things and then find images to match their writings? Thank you, and I do like this lesson and the work you have shown is great.
