Fill Your Head

Project Published 9/12/12 Last updated on 2/29/20
Using a digital camera, profile shots were made of each student. (Try to photograph the students against a solid background.) Using the magic wand from the toolbox in Photoshop, "select" the background, inverse the selection and click "delete". You should be left with the empty profile of the student. Have students fill their head with the images that have meaning to them - music, art, animals, whatever. Directions can be found here

I like the softness of the colors used in this image! They all go together in the same hue without clashing, but the message is as powerful as all the images combined!

Love this idea. Great for so many subjects. English, HSIE, Science, PDHPE. The guide is great too. Thanks!

Hi Kris,

Thanks for the explanation. I love the example, it is very expressive. The guns just kind of threw me off coming from the K-12 environment.

Hi Janet,

This was the work of a serious art student who went onto college majoring in art. I knew that he was making a statement. Normally, I screen things like this, but he convinced me of his intent.

Great collage project. It really engages the students since they should be the experts on the subject for the project.

Do they always use a black background, or can they use a different solid/gradient color instead?

Are you at all concerned that there is an image with 2 handgun barrels pointing toward a person's head in the example?
