Maker Activities in the Classroom

Project Published 6/15/16 Last updated on 5/16/18

This is an exciting time for Maker activities and Makerspaces in the classroom. Through hands-on activities creating objects, capturing and recording the creation process, and documenting and presenting to peers and the community, students and teachers are actively engaging with each other to build, break, and learn! Join us for a live session exploring this work with Adobe Education Leader, Sherri Kushner.

Learn more about Sherri Kushner:

Sherri Kushner teaches media arts to sixth through eighth graders at Chute Middle School in Evanston, Illinois. She brings dynamic energy that keeps students engaged in her classes on digital photography, video, graphic design, animation, 3D Printing and Minecraft. While she loves to share the latest tech gadgets and apps with her students, her passion is working with students on meaningful, issue-based projects.

Kushner says her greatest role in the classroom is teaching students to effectively communicate their ideas about issues that affect them in their school and community. She often has a camera and microphone ready to film class discussions or projects in motion. Kushner values the dialogue and process that her students engage in just as much as the images, videos, and multimedia projects they create.

Kushner enjoys traveling, and was fortunate to participate in a Fulbright Memorial Fund trip to Japan and subsequent trips to Japan, China, and South Korea through the Freeman Foundation's National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. She loves presenting her students' projects and best practices at state and national art, education, and tech conferences. Kushner holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has completed coursework for her doctorate in Narrative Media and Art Education.
