This is an activity which I think is well scaffolded and presented. I will be sharing it with some of my friends in the science department. I may even try it with some of my students.

I like this idea. It could also be used for historical and literary figures. One could modernize a historical figure as well. This would cause students to have to think about the time period the person lived in, as well as the advances since then and how to implement them in their design.
