Understanding digital photography and digital images

Lesson Plan Published 11/11/13 Last updated on 3/2/20

Digital photography is fast, fun, and easy. One of the coolest things about digital photography is that you can see your picture right away. With just a few clicks of the mouse you can download, organize, edit, and share all of your digital photos. In this activity, students take photos and gather images from various sources, identifying elements of visual design that reflect good composition. Students also learn about scanned images, Camera RAW, video stills, and key digital image terminology.

Going to try this again. Last time I used this curriculum was in Taiwan. I am back in the USA and will try it with my Yearbook class. Thank You, Adobe

For articulation purposes, Lightroom has to be taught because it is the starter software for the college classes. My high school class does more in depth use of Photoshop than the the Photo 1 class at the local community college. I am grateful for Adobe giving us these resources to help with curriculum at the high school level.

Thank you for the resource. Other photography you teach lightroom, camera raw and bridge and then let them choose which program they prefer?

This a great resource that comes complete with foolproof instructions as well as a rubric for grading student work. It is scaffolded very well for the beginning photography students in my class.

Your Introduction to Digital Photography has too many factual errors. I could never use it as -is with my students.

Adobe Education

Posted on 1/31/18 3:32:46 PM Permalink

Dear Mark,

Indeed the activity itself is still outdated and has not been updated since 2013. We only updated the Camera Raw Photoshop tutorial. Apologies - we should have been more clear in communicating that. However updating these activity is in our pipeline and will hopefully done in the next 6-12 months.

We recently updated our the How to Work with Camera Raw tutorial to the Adobe Photoshop (version 22.0 - October 2017) release. We've also added links to assets used in the technical guides.

The How To Work with camera Raw handout is very helpful in explaining and showing what a raw file is in photography. I will use this in both my Graphic Design class and Photography class.
