Drones in the Classroom

Are you using drones at all in your classroom? If so, what kind of things are your students doing with drones? What advice do you have for a newbie considering purchasing drones? (prices, cameras, brands, etc) What expectations do you have for students using drones? Any information would be helpful! Feel free to send along links to specific drones too!

I teach "Design" in an international school in South Korea. We use the drones for arial photos, video, stock footage, additionally, we use the photos for mapping activities in the primary school and capture footage of PE classes from a direct, over-head position. The PE teachers then use that to discuss it with students/teams.

I teach film (in the UK) and the two major concerns are always the laws around what you can and cannot do (since even if a student is doing it it's still a commercial flight since you're a business) and the safety/maintenance of the gear. I would totally recommend the DJI Mavic Pro as it's small and can be controlled and repaired very easily.

I teach Digital Video here, and I allow students to use drones for their films. I only allow year 3 students that have shown they are capable of being responsible for the equipment. We have the DJI Mavic pro and the DJI spark. I feel better when they use the Spark, as it is much easier to control and less expensive to replace.
