Learning objectives:


At the end of the professional development workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • find out the proper measurements of papers in different sizes
  • relate between the different sized standard papers (like in between broadsheet, A3, A4 etc)
  • choose the proper paper size for different specific publication
  • figure out what are the basic components of page-content are required mandatorily
  • locate the sources from where the elements of the page can be gathered
  • choose the proper input devices for different elements in the page
  • measure all the standards parameters for the layout of a newspaper front page
  • define the relation between point (general unit for font size) and inches
  • select the proper font related values for different stage of text like headline, flag line, body etc.  
  • predict which font in what size will be suitable for a textual part
  • calculate the different character paragraph and alignment settings for text blocks
  • Choose the right process to import the resources coming from outside agencies.
  • Scan document from scanners
  • take backup of photographs from digital cameras
  • straighten and crop the image
  • edit the images with levels, carves and color balance
  • create a composition graphics if needed
  • vectorise the diagrams, which is got from illustration artist
  • combine the bitmap and vector to create an info-graphics
  • format the news contents in text from the reporters
  • mockup a dummy sheet with proper placeholder sign
  • locate the exact space and place for advertisements, text and graphics
  • set up a new document with proper settings and parameters
  • set up margins, columns and gutter
  • prepare a digital dummy with rulers and guides
  • save the file as template
  • block the mandatory areas with advertisement and nameplate
  • draw basic image and text container on the digital dummy as per the dummy sheet
  • place from the text file or type text materials
  • format minute details of text
  • place and crop photographs and diagrams
  • create frames for different elements
  • making captions
  • applying thin, thick and dotted rulers
  • create registration of the page for printing
  • hide the guides and make a preview file
  • save the file in native format
  • prepare the file for package and print
  • convert to PDF
  • setup for digital publishing

Using the Adobe Products Skills to Introduce:

  • image editing software (Photoshop)
  • vector graphic software (Illustrator)
  • layout making software (Indesign)
  • digital publishing software (Acrobat)
