Flipped Learning

I tried this approach when teaching intelligent systems to a group of 15-year old students. I didnt find it as effective as teaching the concepts first, modelling the expected standard, giving students an opportunity to develop the skill under guided instruction and then giving them the opportunity to complete the task/project. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it and succeeded - maybe you can provide some pointers as to what strategies you used to make it work.
